waiting

we're well into week 37. contractions are kicking away - i have to stop and breathe through some of them. liam is always concerned when i do this and asks if i'm ok.

we just got home from our beach trip - it was pretty glorious filling up our family cup right before this babe comes along and shifts our little family around. those first few months are always the hardest - when will has to take over while i tend to this new little life and i always miss him so darn much until we all fall into our new rhythm and life becomes normal. so it was nice being all together, uninterrupted for a solid week.

mentally, i think we're all ready for this baby. we've prepped the kids on the birth and have been honest and open. this book became a favorite for explaining everything. in the beginning, i was somewhat dreading the "where exactly is the baby going to come out?" question but once it was asked and answered, he just said "ok" and kept going. i think it's really important to break through this whole idea of the birth process being gross, horrible, awful and something we need to shield our kids from. if we're open and honest about it being a normal and beautiful part of life from the beginning, that leaves no room for negative feelings. i hope liam remembers this time in his life and how special it is.

we still have no nursery. sigh. we do have a wardrobe sitting in the corner of our bedroom with all the little outfits and blankets i've washed. we might just get a couple more walls up and painted this weekend but who knows. at least i'm confident that the only things this baby needs are boobs, some swaddle blankets, and some sort of carrier for the first couple months. since i have all of those, i'm somewhat ok with the nursery status. i think we'll have plenty of willing arms to hold this little girl.  liam is already begging for her to sleep in his bed :)

so we're ready and waiting...

so, so blessed to have all these images from my dear friend, ali, of freebird imagery.
